I was mesuring AC voltage with a hand held mulitmeter and it displayed a number that is much less than what I expected. I tried changing to different test leads and it still was doing the same thing? Anyone have any idea what is going on?

It sounds to me that you just have to replace the 9V battery inside your Multimeters' class='regSlim'>multimeter. Eventhough your Multimeters' class='regSlim'>multimeter powers up, most of them does not have an indication that the battery is low. Make sure you turn off the mulitmeter after use otherwise the battery life will go down dramatically.
